Driving a golf cart around the beautiful island of Bonaire!
We visited Bonaire as a 1 day stop on a 12 night cruise through the ABC islands and South America. We only had a super short 5 hours here, but we made the most of it with the BEST excursion. We always try to avoid cruise ship excursions because they are often expensive, involve a giant bus of tourists or are boring. In this case, I’m pretty sure we had the best time of anyone on the island 🙂
This trip took place December 2022

We stopped in Bonaire for a short trip on a cruise, only there from 8am-1pm. Not a long time, and wish we had more time, but renting the golf cart was the perfect way to see the island. We rented through Bonaire Cruisers. They didn’t have a 4 person one, so we rented two 2 person!

We walked right off the ship to the tent where we were given instructions to their shop. Super easy to find. We reserved these in advance of our cruise which was great. We were able to get on the cart super fast. It was all very flat, not a lot of traffic. Easy!

We did the southern loop. They will give you a map and a full run down of where to go, but we had done a lot of research ahead of time so we skipped the tutorial and got on our way.
Once you got onto the main road, it was so simple. We stopped at salt flats, slave huts, saw the lighthouse and some flamingos. The slave huts were really hard to see – imagining the heat and the forced labor happening there. It was good that they preserved it so we can learn from history.
There were SO many flamingos – thousands.

Made a few other quick stops at some nice beach views.
Then we went over to see the kiteboarding but didn’t spend long (wish we had more time to give that a try!).

Then we headed to the donkey sanctuary. That was super fun also and drove through there with our carts and had a great time. We had to rush back to the ship but were able to do all of that in about 3.5-4 hrs. Amazing way to see the island!
