Best Food in Rome!

The food in Rome is 10/10! Here are our favorites.

When we remember our time in Rome, one of our favorite memories is the FOOD! We ate a ton of good food in Rome – everything from pizza to pasta to gelato. We aren’t super fancy dining people – so this list primarily consists of quick eats and casual restaurants. Oh – and, again, gelato! You really can’t go wrong when you’re in Rome, and the food is all very reasonably priced. What are your favorites that I missed?

Starting with…. Gelato!

#1 by far……. Gelateria La Romana … we liked this so much, we went back a 2nd time. The best flavor of gelato is obviously pistachio, no question, but they have many others to choose from. It was so creamy and delicious! Our kids loved the stracciatella.

#2 – Frigidarium Gelato – we liked the hard chocolate shell and hadn’t seen this at other shops. The gelato was really nice and creamy as well.

Yikes – sunburn!

#3 – Panna&Liquirizia – good views from steps. We liked this gelato, but loved the vibe of the area even more. We liked sitting with everyone on the stairs and were looking right at some ancient ruins in the center of town.

#4 – Fatamorgana – honestly, it was just OK. They had some interesting flavors, but it didn’t taste as high quality. I wouldn’t put this on a favorite list, but since it gets recommended often, and we tried so many kinds of gelato, I thought I’d offer my take – which is, it’s ‘ok’.

Breakfast and Coffee

Caffe Camerino – the pistachio pastries were amazing and they had a wide variety of items to try. We each tried something different and were really happy.

Pasticceria Boccione – 300 year old Jewish Bakery. We arrived early in the morning and had no wait, but we heard it gets busier as the day goes on. It’s a super tiny store and just a few people working there. The breakfast is basically like a ricotta and fruit cake. It doesn’t look overly beautiful – kind of burned looking on top, but the flavor is amazing. You pick your flavor and they cut you a slice to go!

Sant’Eustachio Cafe – this is a very famous café near the Pantheon and it gets very crowded. They have breakfast treats and coffee as well as a ton of things you can buy to take home as souvenirs. It’s certainly a more touristy café than others but we were really happy with everything we tried. We also especially enjoyed the cannoli!

Food!

Miscellanea – very cute place near Pantheon. I got the gnocchi which was delicious. It’s a small place with a few seats outdoors and a nice inside area we well. The pasta was excellent.

Pasta e Vino – loved this place as a bit of a ‘fancier’ dinner overlooking the cats at Largo di Torre Argentina and outdoor seating. While we waited for the food, the kids could go peek at the cats, and again – right in view of essentially a history museum right outside your table. The lasagna was a favorite at our table.

Suppli – missed opportunity to get more of these every single day. We tried this place once and regretted not going back for more. They are basically fried rice and cheese balls with various flavors inside. Makes for a wonderful snack or even a meal!

Pizza Drinks & Food – this was a spur of the moment find for us, but the food was delicious and cheap. It wasn’t crowded and actually had pretty good reviews. It wasn’t a very charming atmosphere inside or anything, but cheap and good food with no wait is often what you need when traveling with kids.

La Montecarlo – nice, sit down restaurant near our hotel. We sat outside and the service was good. Cacio e pepe was the favorite here.
