Costa Rica

Sloths in Costa Rica!!

Our one and only time, so far, visiting Costa Rica was on a cruise stop. Honestly, it doesn’t feel like I’m even doing this beautiful country justice. But – we felt lucky to get a taste of what Costa Rica has to offer, even if just for a few hours!

This trip was taken December 2022.

We also, very unlike us, booked a tour. We mostly did this because we had some extra cruise credits to spend. We typically don’t like these because they are expensive and you’re on a giant tour bus. Which – is basically what this was.

But – we did get to see and learn a few really neat things. Our cruise started in Puerto Limon port. From there, we took a bus until we got to a historic banana transport train. We got to ride on the train for a while seeing banana leaves, animals and more. We especially liked going through some of the small villages and seeing some of the homes along the tracks. They mentioned that the land there is basically not technical property, so people just started building unauthorized homes there but no one stops them.

Next, we went on a river cruise. This was the best part 🙂 There were tons of animals, including sloths, crocodiles, monkeys swinging from trees and more. It was nice to get off the stuffy train and onto the water as well. Pictures don’t quite do it justice – check out the vlog to see videos instead!

Finally, we ended back at the port where we went into a market near the ship to get some souvenirs. It was a nice day but definitely left us wanting to come back and really see more of Costa Rica.
